Yosemite West Volunteer Fire Department

Previous efforts by YWPHI to establish a volunteer fire department were abandoned in 2001 due to lack of volunteers. Three criteria are necessary to create a volunteer fire department: a fire truck, a building to house the truck, and a trained volunteer crew.

During winter 2003-2004 the YWPHI Fire Safety Committee renewed discussions with NPS and Mariposa County officials to determine the feasibility of such a project.

Meanwhile, all Yosemite West residents (owners and renters) who have an interest in becoming a trained volunteer fire fighter should contact the YWPHI Fire Safety Chair and review the Mariposa County Fire Department application form. Please visit the Mariposa County Fire Department website for more information.

In April a consultant on community based emergency response team from Mariposa County will contact the YWPHI Fire Safety Committee to discuss options for our community. Any meeting date and time will be announced in advance.
